Opinion

Now that you have read through my blog about telecommunications I hope that you now have a better understanding as to what it is along with how it functions. I myself before I started doing my research I had no idea just how much I myself telecommute. Like I said we are just so accustom to this topic that we do not even realize we just think that it is a norm that must be installed in every new technological device along with any new advancements that might make our everyday lives easier such as making appointments along with schooling for example. So now I will ask your opinion on my postings about telecommunications along with any questions that you may have. I hope you enjoyed my blog as much as I did putting it together!

The Cons

For the cons in telecommunications we will first explore the view of an employee working from home. You will at first have a very difficult and even a regretful stage when you first make the transition from working in an office at your organization and then from working at home which some people have a longer transition period than others. Also you may not think of the costs that go into actually working from home along with getting use to how your new home office may function. If your organization is paying for the costs of your new office equipment (computer, phone, or any other electrical equipment) you will have to be on their time for they are the ones who have to call the technicians to set it up and you potentially could lose out on some of your work or clients. Not only is it a transition period for yourself but also your clients as well who will have a difficult time adjusting to your new work methods from home for you may now need to make adjustments to your hours. You will need to set up a structure of time management and productivity which is often not provide how you should function in your own household when it comes to your work but they do however have expectations that are sometimes higher than what you would be working in the organizations offices. You can often feel isolated from your former workers and have a difficult time communicating with them. For example if you are a high level employee that is telecommuting you will often have to have meetings with your colleges which can either be via phone or facetime which often you will sometimes need to speak up more in these meetings to make yourself known to the others in the room or not feeling as though you are an equal participant. You will need to learn how to manage from a distance for you will be out of the day to day loop. Sometimes an organization will not have the budget for an employee to telecommute and expenses will have to come out of the employees own pocket and they potentially will not be reimbursed for the costs. For those who are not in the telecommute of a business world the cons that we face with telecommunications are when our devices that we rely on so heavily may face glitches that cause them to be temporarily down which can cause a huge inconvenience in our communication with others. Can you think of a con that I have not mentioned? Leave a comment in the box below I would love to hear!

The Pros

Now after reading about the costs of telecommunications you maybe wondering what are the pros to this topic if there are any. Before you read on make a list as to what you think some of the pros are to telecommunications in regards to the business world and then see if we have any that match. First we will take a look at the pros on the organizations side. Here is a list that was able to come up with during my research.
-improve office productivity
-increased use of updated/modern technological advances
-an increased level of competitive advantages
-reduced central office costs
-improve environmental reputation
-optimize personnel performance
-the potential savings of office space
-if your organization throws any lunches on the house for employees it is cost saving along with if you have any office parties the employee who telecommutes has the possibility of not being able to attend which is another savings

Pros for the individual
-working from home
-being able to spend more time with family by not having to waste time commuting to work and back
-increase job satisfaction
-savings on gas and mileage
-productivity and balancing of lifestyle (after you adjust from working in an office to home)
-reduction in stress
-avoiding traffic
-effective time management (also after the adjustment period)
-increase in personal safety
-control and design of workplace

Now lets move on to pros for those who are not in the business world but telecom on a daily basis. Being able to talk to someone where ever and when ever through the use of phones and any other smart devices. If you are an online student you are also in the same boat as someone who telecommutes from working at home. There are a lot of aspects to telecommunication and I can sit here and write out the pros to every aspect but we will leave it here for the time being but if you can think of any pros I have not mentioned along with a different angle of subject of telecom feel free to leave a comment. Now go to your list that you made before you read mine, did you have something that I didn't?

What are the Costs to Telecommunications?

So you maybe asking just how much does it cost for telecommunications to actually working? I will take you into the business world of American Bank Corporations (ABC) to give you an example of just how much goes into the cost. One of the top manages at ABC had to relocate and this was not good for the company due to already losing out on some of their top level employees and they were not about to let go of another so they had to come up with a solution for this problem. The CEO came up with the idea of their employee (his name is Glenn) to try out telecommunications. The company was taking a risk with this new idea and did not know much about the cost factors that would need to go into this experiment and neither did Glenn. For starters Glenn needed to provide an office in his own home where he could work so he spent some money out of his own pocket for office furniture which the company would not provide for him which we all know how much money goes into office furniture depending on an individuals preferences, the comfort of a chair, how big of a desk you will need, and other accessories you need to accommodate for furniture you could be talking around $50.00 if you just use a fold out table and a fold up chair and if you prefer what a normal office would be you could be looking in the thousands range. Glenn also needed a fax machine in order to keep contact with his clients and the workers he managed and ABC would not provide the cost of this expense either and the standard cost of a fax machine is around the price range of $30.00-$100.00 depending on the level you need it to function. There are other cost factors that you yourself will need to provide for yourself if you are a telecommuter in the business world working from home but these are the most demanding costs along with if you need an additional phone line for your house in order to keep your work separate from you personal phone calls. ABC however did pay Glenn's phone line as it was connected directly through them which the technicians set up but if you need an additional work line then it would have to come out of your own pocket. On the business owners side the cost of one or more of their employees telecommuting they need to provide the costs of new hardware, telecommunications equipment, and software in order for their employees to work as though they were actually physically in the office. On average computer costs and associated hardware is on average around $3,200 per person, phone lines to be wired to the business for a telecommute worker working from home is around $100-$500 per person. The benefits of an employee working from home however saves around $5,000 in cubical savings. So after reading about some of the costs that goes into both the business side and your own pocket do you think that the company should pay for all expenses such as furniture and other necessities that are needed in order for an employee who telecommutes or should the employee be paying more?
Here is a video that will go more in-depth about telecommunication costs if you work a home business.
Enjoy!

Statistics in Telecommunications

As you know telecom has drastically grown throughout the decades and has spread from the use of phones and luxury easy communications into the business world. Conservative estimated that in the year 2000 ranged from 11-15 million with an estimated growth rate of 18% and the numbers have nearly doubled since then. It is estimated that 3.7 million employees now work from home at least half of their work time and 22% of the self-employed population primarily work from home.

The ever growing rise has made it more convenient for workers who juggle a multitude of tasks. The convenience of being able to work from home they are able to better manage their family tasks such as parenting. If you are more interested in statistics here is an amazing article that is jammed pack of information about the rising rates of telecommunications.

Telecommunications in Health Care

So after reading the title for this posting you might be confused as to why and how telecommunications is related to health care. For starters telecom is used in order to make patient experiences better. For example here is a list of ways telecommunications is used:
-medical equipment mobility
-patient mobility and remote access
-communication and entertainment
After reading the list I would like for you to think about just how you think telecommunications is in relation to health care, think outside the box!
When you exhaust your ideas below is an article that gives details as to just how telecommunications is used in health care.
Good Luck!

Who Does Telecommunications?

Now that you know what telecommunications is and how it works do you know who does it? Every time you use your phone to call someone, text, snapchat, or any other form of communicating with or to someone you are telecommuting. For some examples of others who telecom are businesses, banks (such as America Bank Corporations), hospitals, schools, and even young teens especially when it comes to social media. Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram are some of the biggest social media sites in todays world and weather if it is being used through a computer, laptop, smartphone, or Ipad teens and young adults are among the largest demographic group who use telecom. It
statistically shows that 24% of teens are constantly using social media to communicate with others and that 92% go online at least once a day! In todays world it is much easier for people to communicate via telecom in any way that may be easier and the fastest for the other person on the other end of the spectrum to receive the message. Everything today is about convenience and we do live in a technologically filled world that we often do not realize what we are actually doing because we are just so use to the telecommunication system that we have been living with for the past decades its just a norm. However, with that said we do notice when telecommunications is not working properly due to a glitch or when something could be done easier with the help of telecommunications. For example when it comes to schooling there are a number of students that cannot attend classes on a regular basis like myself so I telecommute. I talk to my professor and class mates via the internet and this makes my life hassle free and allows me to do other things such as work and parent which I would not be able to do all three events sufficiently and cohesively if I were to attend school via face to face. Telecommunications has had a great influence on every individual even if they do not know it. To simply answer the question of who does telecommunications it EVERYONE!
