Telecommunications Defined

Now that you have a brief introduction as to what telecommunications is I will now go further into explanation. Telecommunications is also known as telecom or teleworking for short so you will often see the word telecom as you read throughout my blog so keep this word in the front of your mind. When it comes defying telecom in the business world (and I will usually refer to the business world of telecom in my postings) the U.S General Service Administration (1995) defined telecom as referring to a means of performing work away from the principal office-typically at home or at a nearby telecenter. There are many definitions of telecom but I will go into other definitions later on throughout the course of these blog postings and go further into who is using telecommunications which you my be surprised just to find out the you use telecom in your everyday to day routines. For the basic widespread definition of telecom is the exchange of information over various distances (yes even all the way on the other side of the world) by electronic means and refers to all types of data, video transmissions, and voice communications. A wide range of information is transmitted through technology such as telephones, fiber optics, satellites, TV, radio, and the internet. Telecommunications constitutes a fundamental change in how, where, and even how we are as individuals able to perform daily tasks if they are recreational or mandatory and continues to grow as time goes on. You maybe surprised to learn that telecom is not a new generational topic that we have recently started doing but it has actually existed for several decades! In the late 1970's and early 1980's telecom began in the business world where the physical location of some workers shifted from the offices into their own homes and in the 1990's this was a preferred working options for some businesses.
If you are interested in the history of telecommunications I have inserted a link below that is very detailed and I was shocked to learn that the Industrial Revolution played a huge role in the advancement of telecommunications and was the basic building block of where we are today in the world of telecom.
